Wake Me Up by Tim Murphy is a simple and effective novel that is based on a true story of a man who lost his wife to cancer and tried to find a cure for it. Murphy tells us that the story is about hope and faith, two things that are not often found in a story about cancer, but they are what this story was really all about.
The story is set in the 1980s, when Murphy was living in New York City as a writer while waiting for his book to sell in the hope that it would be an overnight success. He was getting some interesting ideas but didn't know how he was going to write them down and publish them. His friend introduced him to "morning therapy" - basically, an eight-hour sleep-and-do-your-best kind of work where you could go into your head and visualize your thoughts or feelings and get some relief from stress.
The result of that "Morning Therapy" worked for Murphy. It was just one of those things where your mind and body both needed a little bit of rest and relaxation. When he got out of bed, everything was fine and he wrote his first novel. In this novel, Murphy uses the same techniques and is doing pretty well, too. So, if you have been depressed because you don't know how to live with your cancer, maybe it's time to start looking at your life in a different way.
